Alastair Greene started playing guitar at age 15. Originally inspired by Hard Rock guitarists such as Jimmy Page, Jake E Lee, and Eddie Van Halen, his life and musical course was altered when a friend loaned him B.B. King’s ‘Live At The Regal’, Buddy Guy’s ‘A Man and the Blues, and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s ‘Couldn’t Stand The Weather’. Alastair attended the Berklee College of music from 90-’92 and has since been performing and recording around Southern California since the early 90s. His playing can be heard on his own CDs as well as recordings by Alan Parsons (Alan’s 2004 release ‘A Valid Path’), drum legend Aynsley Dunbar, Mitch Kashmar (Delta Groove recording artist), Bad Astronaut, world renowned Blues guitarist Frank Goldwasser, as well as a number of CDs by many independent artists.
Alastair (also referred to as “AG” by his friends and colleagues) has played live with a vast array of talented and gracious musicians including Mark Karan (Ratdog), Jeff Pevar (CSN), Seymour Duncan, The Pontiax, Wally Ingram, Juan Alderete (The Mars Volta), Cougar Estrada (Los Lobos), Gary Mallaber (Steve Miler Band), Barry Goldberg (Bob Dylan – Mike Bloomfield) and more. He has opened shows with his band (Tom Lackner on Drums and Jack Kennedy on Bass) for such artists as John Mayall And The Bluesbreakers, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Mike Campbell's Dirty Knobs, Lonnie Brooks, Jonny Lang, Robin Trower, and Junior Brown. Alastair has and continues to play in other bands that have had the privilege of sharing bills with Billy Boy Arnold, Junior Watson, Malo, Tierra, Lucky Peterson, Amos Garrett, and many others.
2002: Alastair released his first CD entitled ‘A Little Wiser’ which contains a collection of mostly original Blues and Southern Rock songs. Special guests on the CD include Mitch Kashmar on Harmonica and Jim Calire in Hammond Organ. Shortly after AG started working with drum legend Aynsley Dunbar (Zappa, Mayall, Bowie, Journey etc,). The band is a continuation of Aynsley Dunbar’s Retaliation which was a prominent British Blues band from the 60s. The 2002-2003 version featured Alastair on Guitar and Vocals along with AGB bassist Jack Kennedy and D. Malcolm Anderson on Organ. An EP is recorded which includes songs by Journey, Frank Zappa and one of Alastair’s original songs ‘3 Bullets’. Alastair and Aynsley also record together on a record by African/R&B vocalist Uru. The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation rehearsed in preparation for live shows but the project got scrapped when Aynsley landed a gig with a corporate events band called World Classic Rockers.
October 2003 marked the release of 'The Alastair Greene Band: Official Bootleg- Live In L.A.' Rounding out the established sound of Alastair, Tom, and Jack is the Hammond B3 stylings of former Junior Wells Band alumni Steve Utstein. AG also continued to played gigs with such bands as The Bomb and Mike Dawson & The Select Few.
2004: The Alastair Greene Band teamed up with Delta Groove recording artist Mitch Kashmar (Harmonica and Vocals) to play gigs as the Kashmar Greene Band. Mitch and Alastair also form an acoustic Delta Blues style duo and have been playing gigs throughout Southern California. In May Alastair played the Spring Blues Fest in Belgium with Frank Goldwasser and Mitch and upon returning home got a chance to open the American Roots Festival with Jonny Lang and Junior Brown at the Santa Barbara Bowl with the AGB. On the recording front Alastair played on 2 songs on the newest Alan Parsons CD “A Valid Path” which also contains contributions from David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and The Crystal Method.
2005: The beginning of the year found the AGB in the studio backing Blues Guitarist and Singer Frank Goldwasser for a full length CD. More gigs followed with Mitch Kashmar as well as other Southern California and Santa Barbara area bands. In August Alastair joined the Alan Parsons Band for a gig at Alan’s house warming party in Santa Barbara. AG also reunited w/ former Scarecrow (’92-’95) band mate Chris Chalk to start playing some acoustic duo Blues gigs.
2006: Recording Sessions Galore! Summer 2006 finds AG in the studio completing his next full length CD. Alastair will also be supporting Mitch Kashmar on his 2nd CD on Delta Groove Productions. The Frank Goldwasser w/ The Alastair Greene Band CD is set for a July 2006 release. Alastair also started recording with childhood friend and SoCal Metal talent Giancarlo Mistretta along with former Ultraspank members Tyler Clark and Dan Ogden. The band is known as Retrodemon and a CD should be released by years end. More gigs around Southern California ensue with Mitch Kashmar, Shari Puorto (SoCal Blues Diva), and Trio Grande’ (Alastair’s Classic Blues-Rock cover trio).
